Walk the bridges of Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula

Two of the most important attractions of Rishikesh are its marvelous and enormous hanging bridges of orange color that are suspended over the river Ganges. Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, which are found separated by a couple of kilometers, but each one connects zones really important of the city and deserve to be visited.

It is permitted to cross both bridges both walking as in motorbike, but in some hours of the day it can arrive to be a complete odyssey.

Loyal Cave, also known as Kailas Cave, is located about 30 kilometers from Rishikesh. It is a wonderful and little-known cave formed by the erosion of water currents high up in the mountains. The cave is a natural cavity hidden beneath a white-colored religious temple, where a Baba (an Indian guru) lives and keeps it open for visitors.

Access to the cave is through a traditional door covered with white ceramic, after which visitors must descend some stone steps to reach the heart of the cave and explore all its chambers.

Inside, there is electric light to facilitate the visit, but visitors can also request a flashlight or use their mobile phone to explore this incredible place.

The rock formations and colors are spectacular both on the floor and the ceiling. Visitors can hear the dripping of water and some bats that live inside. The area is small but very safe, suitable for visiting alone or accompanied.

Neer Waterfalls

Neer Waterfalls are one of the biggest attractions in the area and another thing to do in Rishikesh; a completely natural area but visited by thousands of people throughout the year, especially in summer. It is possible to get there by walking, taking a tuc tuc, motorcycle, or car, which can be parked on the main road.

There are also shops to buy water or snacks before climbing to the waterfalls, as from the registration area to the water, one must walk between 10 and 15 minutes along natural trails.

At the waterfall area, there is a natural pool large enough to accommodate more than 100 people at the same time, which can be stressful for some visitors. However, for those who prefer tranquility, it is possible to carefully climb another small trail to the top of the waterfall to find a pleasant spot where one can jump into the water and rest on the stones.

Kunjapuri Temple

The sunrise from Kunjapuri Temple is a perfect spot to enjoy the view offered by the state of Uttarakhand. Even during winter, it is possible to see some snow-covered mountains from this place. The Kunjapuri Temple is located at about 1600 meters above sea level and is definitely one of the must-visit places in this area, located 25 kilometers from the city of Rishikesh.

The city of Rishikesh gained worldwide recognition when the musical group The Beatles decided to enter an ashram to learn meditation in 1968; a place where they composed some of their best songs for “The White Album. Years later, the place was abandoned and began to deteriorate, but in 2015 it was reopened to the public.

Today, it is a tourist spot where nature has reclaimed every space; the walls have changed color, but dozens of artists have brought the place to life with graffiti and murals. Vindhya Wasini Temple

Another place unknown by many tourists is the temple of Vindhya Wasini located at 30 kilometers from Rishikesh and one hour of way by car. Practically it remains inside Rajaji National Park and during some months of the year it is possible to find elephants on the way drinking water and eating plants at the edges of the river.

However, it is not recommendable to go in season of rains, because the last stretch to arrive at the temple one has to do it among small rivers and the access can get complicated.

It is a very simple place and does not have anything beyond what can be found in any other Hindu temple. Sculpture of gods, flowers, offerings, pilgrims and some guru that lives in the place, however the landscapes and the way to arrive until there can be a complete adventure.
